International Women's Day (IWD) is a global vacation celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the artistic, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women. It's also a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues similar as gender equivalency, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. 
 International Women's Day is commemorated in a variety of ways worldwide; it's a public vacation in several countries, and observed socially or locally in others.

Zetkin was born in 1857 in Wiederau, where she trained as a schoolteacher, and was associated with the Social Democratic Party (SPD) — one of the two major political parties in Germany. She shared in both labour movement and women’s movement.
